Bread

I have been a bread making fool lately, or maybe just a fool.

This oatmeal bread was scrupulous.

Buns for our kale and red pepper burgers (topped with goat cheese, more kale and roasted red onion) toasted up nicely. The burgers were fabulous! If you want to try them, here is the recipe: http://www.jaroflemons.com/red-pepper-kale-beef-burgers/

And now I'm trying my hand at sourdough. Here is my start on day five, looking great! All wild yeast. I'm going to get my first loaf slow rising today.

Good Friday

My dad is participating in a "Passion Walk" today, about 7 miles from one parish to another. My mom is working, but someone sent her this picture. She said dad "was pressed into carrying the cross." This is so moving.

I hope everyone has a fruitful Good Friday. It is one of only 2 official fasting days for us Roman Catholics (the eastern traditions fast more often), and I really love this challenging spiritual practice. Emptying ourselves to meditate more deeply in our reliance on God. The church says two small snacks, and one small meal to keep up strength. Plenty of water, you would be hard pressed to find a reason not to try fasting. We are so use to filling, and often overfilling our bellies. Jesus truly is the food for eternal life.

Much love to all.

Faulkners in Germany!

We are going to Stuttgart!!!! I can hardly believe it, tickets are bought, we leave May 28th! We decided that we could not pass up this once in a life time opportunity to all go to Germany to visit the Smiths. Scott was able to get a military discount on our tickets, and of course we will save mondo money by staying at their place most of the trip. We are so excited.
