Homework

Yes, pre-K has homework. Seems a bit ridiculous if you ask me. The Waldorf people would be appalled:-)  Today I registered Katya for Kindergarten at Holy Cross.  It guarantees us a spot in their program (max 24 students with a teacher and a full time aide), woo-hoo!  We will still consider Portland Village School if we happen to get picked but Holy Cross is the front runner.  I went to the Kindergarten round up last weekend and I loved the school.  So many things about it appeal to me:  small school, small class sizes, continuity between grades, location, spiritual development, service and outreach opportunities...right down to the fact that there is no cafeteria.  Silly I know; but I think 'hot lunch' is gross and I am happy to avoid it altogether.  I was very impressed by the staff and older students I met and most important, it just felt right.  And so the savings begins.  It is pretty overwhelming when we think about how much money it will cost over the years but with the public schools being so poor, it is just what we have to do.
